EVS BJ 22 Ballistic Jacket

My old body armour died, so time for some new armour, after a bit of looking around I went EVS, they have a great reputation as a company & I was not real convinced by the alternatives. I'm after really good protection so go for a full body suit, some call it pressure suit, others ballistic jacket, basically it's the same idea, an all in one upper body set of armour, that includes chest, back, shoulder, elbow and forearm protection ( some models take the elbow/forearm parts off ).

Positives:

• Very cool armour to ride in, it really does not get hot at all, though does provide some buffering at speed due to the very comprehensive chest protection.
• No chafing at all, it's very comfortable to wear against the skin ( next trick is to try my skins vest, but that is my secret weapon to be revealed at the next enduro ).
• Very flexible, the shoulder is two piece with the chest protector over the arm, this makes it very flexible with for me anyway, totally free movement.

Negatives:

• It's the most expensive, but nonetheless value for money.
• Looks, it really is pretty ugly, mind you it's underneath a jersey, nonetheless in a sport where image does count they could do a better job with colours.

Top rating from me on this, it really is awesome piece of kit.

Gaerne SG10

Well my Sidi Crossfires finally gave up the ghost & I went Gaerne SG10, here's my thoughts after one ride.

Positives:

• Just as comfortable as the Sidi's.
• I prefer the buckles over the Sidi's, they seem less exposed.
• Because there are less parts than the Sidi's the Gaerne's look like they will be less suspectable to damage when you fall off.
• The buckles are easier to adjust, not sure why but once you hook the strap on the buckle it's easy to do up, on the Sidi's that was not always the case.

Negatives:

• Minimal packaging, only one small sticker & no instructions whatsoever ( cleaning etc ), it's not really a major, but compared to the Sidi's where you got a few spare parts & booklet & a few stickers, it seemed minimal.
• Because you get good leverage on the buckles it's easier to overtighten, not really a negative more something to consider.
• The top strap is on it's last notch with my 661 Knee guards, I can't imagin it's any easier with knee braces.

All up though I love them, they feel really secure on & I enjoyed wearing them.
